Workshops and Mentoring

Merran has been exhibiting her art since she was a child. Her life-time involvement in the arts has exposed her to a myriad of different styles, methods, mediums and subjects, ultimately explaining her experimental nature and love of mixing media. Holding her first solo exhibition at age 25, Merran had the privilege of meeting and being mentored by some of Victoria’s renowned artists. Merran, in many instances, got to return the favor by curating her heroes’ retrospective exhibitions, and writing books about them. From Thomas de Kessler (Hungarian), she learned to go big and go hard, to keep on working, and never to doubt oneself. From Connie Walker OAM, she learned to take joy in other’s creations, and to refrain from bringing ugliness into the world . Mira Robinson and Leonie Williams taught her the importance of community. From Carol Boothman OAM, she learned how to take constructive criticism and that you don’t know what you don’t know. Most of all Carol taught Merran the difference between looking and seeing.

Eventually time takes it’s toll and the mentee becomes the mentor.

Merran incorporates her best loved mentors’ philosophies into her own teaching method , adding her own unique form of encouragement and enthusiasm. Safe to say, you will not look at art the same way if Merran takes you under her wing.
